Chatham Arch is primarily a residential neighborhood containing single family, two family and multi-family homes, while Massachusetts Avenue offers numerous shopping, dining, cultural and entertainment venues.

The Indianapolis Cultural Trail will be constructed on Walnut Street along the south side of the 500 Walnut Building.

The Chatham Arch Mass Avenue Historic neighborhood, located in the northeast quadrant of downtown Indianapolis, is a highly sought after residential location. Over the last ten years, new homes have been built, homes have been renovated, new mixed use projects have been constructed, large industrial buildings have been converted to residential condominiums and Mass Ave has become a popular cultural, dining and retail destination.

The neighborhood includes such historic buildings as the Hammond Block, built in 1874, located at 301 Massachusetts Ave.; the Murat Temple, built in 1909, located at 510 N. New Jersey St.; Real Silk Hosiery Mill, built in the early 1900's, on College Ave., together with some pre-Civil War cottages on Arch, St. Claire and 9th Street. The oldest house in the neighborhood is immediately east of 500 Walnut, built in 1863. Architectural styles range from Italianate to German Romanesque/Renaissance (Athenaeum) to Middle Eastern mosque (Murat Temple) to Art Deco (Coca Cola Bottling).
